Food Allergy: Methods of Detection and Clinical Studies

Editat de Anas M. Abdel Rahman
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 22 aug 2017
This book explores the recent advances and integrations in molecular technology in food research platforms, which have revolutionized the way we discover and trace potential allergens in our food and drugs and how we utilize that for diagnosis and management. These different technologies for global allergenomic profiling in different kinds of food are discussed, including mass spectrometry, chromatography, and nuclear magnetic resonance. The book also addresses multiomics research with bioinformatics strategies in food allergy in terms of allergen characterization and quantitation, and covers applications in food allergy research from discovery to routine analysis.

Notă biografică

Anas Abdel Rahman completed his PhD in bioanalytical chemistry in environmental proteomics at the Memorial University of Newfoundland under the supervision of Robert Helleur. From 2011 to 2014, he conducted postdoctoral research in James Dennis’s lab at Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital and University of Toronto on the molecular mechanisms that control glycosylation on cell surface receptors in cancer cells at metabolic levels using metabolomics and glycomics strategies. In 2014, he was appointed as Associate Scientist at the research center of King Faisal Specialist Hospital (KFSHRC) and as Assistant Professor at School of Medicine at Al Faisal University. His current scientific interests are related to signaling pathways controlling the metabolic reprograming in cancer, developing biochemical genetics assays for early diagnostic in inborn error metabolism, and studying occupational asthma in the seafood industry using the allergenomics strategy.

Dr. Abdel Rahman has several publications in the field of seafood allergy using the latest analytical technology. He has been invited to write several book chapters and review articles in the field of seafood occupational asthma in journals such as Journal of Proteome Research, Food and Chemical Toxicology, and Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. He is currently an associate editor of Journal of Integrated OMICS, American Journal of Cancer Genetics, Genomics, and Proteomics, and Open Journal of Mass Spectrometry and an advisory editorial board member in Bioinformatics Journal of Proteomics.

Dr. Abdel Rahman has received several awards, such as MITACS in both 2010 and 2012, and he carried the Canadian Society for Mass Spectrometry award in 2010.
