Recenzii
‘’Nodes has produced a valuable critical edition of Giles’s commentary, one which will be a standard for all scholars interested in the theology and humanist strategies of patristic and classical rhetoric in the sixteenth century’’.
Tony Llizo, Biola University. In: Sixteenth Century Journal , Vol. 43, No. 4, 2012, p. 1157.
“Scholars of Renaissance philosophy, humanism, and art history will welcome this critical edition of Giles of Viterbo's Commentary on Peter Lombard. The Commentary immerses us in the rich but complex cultural world of central Italy in the early sixteenth century when Christian thinkers approached the classical antiquity with new perspectives. This is a difficult and sometimes elusive work, which makes Daniel Nodes' careful edition all the more welcome. The edition will be standard for generations to come.”
John W. O'Malley, S.J., University Professor, Georgetown University
"This edition of Giles of Viterbo's Sentences Commentary offers for the first time a critical edition of an important work of Italian Renaissance scholarship, one that integrates material from Greek myth, the Bible and Judaic studies, ancient philosophy, and Christian theology. An essential resource for anyone interested in these areas."
Craig Kallendorf, Texas A&M University
"This highly impressive critical edition of Giles of Viterbo's commentary on Peter Lombard will shed valuable light on the reception of this important and at times controversial scholastic theologian on the eve of the Reformation."
Philip Ford, University of Cambridge
"The introduction and meticulously prepared critical edition of this major work of Giles of Viterbo, only a small part previously available, enables readers to penetrate more deeply into Renaissance Platonism and the theological eclecticism of the times."
Paul F. Grendler, University of Toronto Emeritus
