Textul de pe ultima copertă
This book aims to systematize theselection of treatment options in patients with extended parotid tumors. Clearcriteria are provided to assist in the choice of treatment, from the simplestoptions involving use of local flaps to the most sophisticated ones. Withnumerous exquisitely detailed color photos, this book will assist the surgeonin ensuring that the patient achieves the best possible quality of life, nomatter what the patient’s age or the associated comorbidities.
Tumors of the parotid gland present particularproblems forthe surgeon, especially when they extend beyond the borders of theparotid tissue. Reconstruction of the postoperative defect is especiallydifficult, not only due to the complexity and density of the anatomicalstructures in the lateral region of the head and neck, but also because of thegeneral condition of most patients, who tend to be elderly and to haveaccompanying disorders. The difficulty in managing extended parotid tumors isincreased by the need to sacrifice the facial nerve, even if only partially. Eachcase must be carefully judged and treated with caution, and Management of ExtendedParotid Tumors will provide anexcellent basis for decision making.
