Natural and Synthetic Waxes – Origin, Production, Technology, and Applications

Autor EJ Krendlinger
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 29 noi 2022
With over 20 years of experience as technology and R&D manager in the industry, Ernst Krendlinger collates here all the relevant information on basic wax properties and processing technologies otherwise scattered across the literature and company brochures. After a general introduction, he provides an overview of the chemistry of waxes including their composition, molecular structure and analysis. In addition, he discusses such physical properties as carbon chain length distribution, dropping point and acid number. Subsequent chapters deal with synthetic waxes from Fischer-Tropsch processes, paraffin and amide waxes as well as diverse wax blends and emulsions, summarizing how these waxes are produced and applied. The final chapter looks at natural waxes and their technical importance in industry, covering their production, properties and market situation. This only up-to-date reference on the topic is essential reading in terms of the physical data as well as parameters and correlations, combining all the information necessary for the analysis and application of synthetic and natural wax compounds.

Descriere

A compilation of all relevant information for the production and use of waxes in technical applications

This book is an up-to-date reference work on waxes. It includes information on wax classes, chemical and physical properties, processing technologies, and technical applications. With over 20 years of experience as a Technology and R&D Manager in the wax industry, the well-qualified author covers many key topics on the topic of waxes, such as:

  • The chemistry of waxes, including their chemical composition, molecular structure and analysis
  • Physical properties, such as carbon chain length distribution, dropping point, and acid number
  • Synthetic waxes from fischer-tropsch processes, paraffin and amide waxes, as well as diverse wax blends and emulsions
  • How these waxes are produced and applied, e.g. as micronizates or powders in printing inks or coatings
  • Natural waxes, such as beeswax and sugar cane wax, and their technical importance in industry

Chemists and engineers working across a wide range of disciplines, along with professionals working in industries where waxes are a topic of interest, will be able to use this reference work to gain a complete understanding of the modern state of waxes, how they are produced, and how they can be effectively used in industrial applications.

Notă biografică

Ernst Krendlinger is Head of R&D at the company DEUREX in Elsteraue (Germany) since 2009. He studied chemistry in Mainz (Germany) and received his doctorate at the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Science in 1988. In between 1991 and 1997, he worked as technology manager coatings additives and waxes for the company Lubrizol, formerly known as Langer & Co., in Cleveland (USA) and Ritterhude (Germany). In 1997, Krendlinger started to work as R&D manager for waxes at Clariant in Höchst (Germany) and became Head of the grinding station for additional waxes in 2002. Uwe H. Wolfmeier studied Physical Chemistry at the University of Hamburg. He received his doctorate in 1980 on a topic of solid-state chemistry. Following he joined the Plastics and Waxes Division of Hoechst AG in Frankfurt. After several years in polyethylene R&D, technical application, and pilot plant operation, he became a member of the Corporate Planning Department. Next, he was appointed Production Manager of a polyethylene plant in Bavaria. In 1988 he assumed responsibility for diverse functions in the Waxes and later also Plastics Additives business, in a managerial position at the Gersthofen plant site, near Augsburg. From 1997 he worked for Clariant in Switzerland. As an executive, from 2005 to his retirement in 2010, he was responsible for Product Safety worldwide.
