Organic Nanophotonics: Fundamentals and Applications: Nano-Optics and Nanophotonics

Editat de Yong Sheng Zhao
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 18 noi 2014
This comprehensive text collects the progress made in recent years in the fabrication, processing, and performance of organic nanophotonic materials and devices. The first part of the book addresses photonic nanofabrications in a chapter on multiphoton processes in nanofabrication and microscopy imaging. The second part of the book is focused on nanoscale light sources for integrated nanophotonic circuits, and is composed of three chapters on organic nano/microcavities, organic laser materials, and polymer light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs). The third part is focused on the interactions between light and matter and consists in three chapters, including the propagation of light in organic nanostructures and photoswitches based on nonlinear optical polymer photonic crystals and photoresponsive molecules, respectively. The final chapter of this book introduces the integration of miniaturized photonic devices and circuits with various organic nanophotonic elements.
The practical case studies demonstrate how the latest applications actually work, while tables throughout the book summarize key information and diagrams and figures help readers to grasp complex concepts and designs. The references at the end of each chapter can be used as the gateway to the relevant literature in the field. Moreover, this book helps researchers to advance their own investigations to develop the next generation of miniaturized devices for information processing, efficient energy conversion, and highly accurate sensing.
Yong Sheng Zhao, PhD, is a Professor at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS), China.

Notă biografică

Prof. Yong Sheng Zhao received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS) in 2006 before working in the United States as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles and Northwestern University, respectively. In 2009, he returned to the ICCAS as a Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science and has since been working on photonic nanomaterials and nanodevices, aiming at solving the problems faced by electrons in information storage, processing and transmission. His research interests include controlled synthesis of nanostructures with specific photonic functions, fundamental exciton processes involved in the nanomaterials, and construction of nanoscale elements and devices for light manipulation and photonic signal processing. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers in prestigious chemistry and materials science journals, including J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater. Many of his works have also been highlighted in high-level journals, like Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, J. Am. Chem. Soc., NPG Asia Materials, RSC Chemistry World, etc. Prof. Zhao’s work has won him a list of the most competitive and prestigious awards in China, including the Scopus Young Scientist Award, the Chinese Chemical Society Award for Outstanding Young Chemist, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Award for Outstanding Young Scientist, the Chinese Chemical Society-Evonik Chemical Innovation Award, and the Distinguished Young Scientist Fund given by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. His achievement has also been recognized internationally. For example, he has been awarded the Asian and Oceanian Photochemistry Association Prize for Young Scientist in 2013 and the Chinese-American Chemistry & Chemical Biology Professors Association Biomatik Distinguished Faculty Award in 2014. He has been invited to join the Editorial Board for Scientific Reports (NPG) andAdvanced Optical Materials (Wiley).
