NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - From the bestselling author of Dark Matter and the Wayward Pines trilogy comes a relentless thriller about time, identity, and memory--his most mind-boggling, irresistible work to date, and the inspiration for Shondaland's upcoming Netflix film. "Gloriously twisting . . . a heady campfire tale of a novel."--The New York Times Book Review NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY Time - NPR - BookRiot

Reality is broken. At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that's sweeping the world is no pathogen. It's just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery--and what's in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth--and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery . . . and the tools for fighting back. Together, Barry and Helena will have to confront their enemy--before they, and the world, are trapped in a loop of ever-growing chaos.

Victor Tanasa a dat nota:

Unfortunately, there were a lot of things I didn't like about Recursion. Light spoilers ahead. Let's start with the ultra generic characters: a divorced cop who lost a child and a work-obsessed scientist whose mother has Alzheimer. That's basically all you'll know about them - they don't feel real, they don't really grow throughout the book, they make stupid decisions and there's even a love story thrown in for good measure (it comes from nowhere and feels extremely forced). The plot was interesting in the beginning, when it was all mystery, but got stale fast when it switched to bullets and explosions instead of well thought out explorations of ethics, memory and time. And no, the "what happens if you go back in time and kill Hitler" scenario was neither enough nor original. The science is all mumbo-jumbo and unconvincing, as Crouch throws in (the authors does that a lot) some terms like micro black holes and expects the reader to not think too much about it. Barry, the detective, becomes a particle physicist at some point, which is just laughable. Didn't care at all for the writing, as this is another one of those books that feels more like a movie (or a script) than an actual novel. Dark Matter didn't suffer as much from this, or I guess it was just more entertaining and one could gloss over the issue more easily. I found the ending weak. Establishing that you can't do a thing, but then with the power of trying harder you actually can, resolving everything, is just lazy. Not recommended, skip this one.
