Recenzii

This three-part handbook presents (1) an overview and historical background, (2) capsules on heated controversies with varied viewpoints, and (3) reference material, including detailed annotations of primary source documents. Although information is available on free Web sites for many of the topics covered, e.g., common athletic injuries, legal/ethical problems, preparticipation examination questions, and ADA recommendations for athletes, this ambitious attempt at a one-stop resource may appeal to the beginning college student. Minigh introduces numerous complex issues related to sports medicine and athletic training, and illustrates her material with examples from many different amateur and professional sports. Subjects covered include careers and salaries, injury prevention/treatment, gene therapy, disabled and transgender athletes, equipment, aggression and violence, liability, HIV/AIDS and hepatitis, confidentiality, medical malpractice, advertising, nutrition and dietary supplements, and doping..Recommended. High school and general readers; lower-level undergraduates.
