The Beginning of Stem Early Learningtm

In recent years, administrators and teachers have pushed stEm subjects (science, technology, engineering, and math) in the classroom. But more doesn't always mean better.

This innovative stEm program, developed by accomplished educators Rosemary Burton, PhD, and Myra Sawyers, MEd, takes a different approach to teaching young children how to think critically. Instead of focusing on the subjects separately, their comprehensive program teaches through experimentation, problem solving, and engineering. It allows children to question the world around them and find creative solutions to problems.

Teachers guide their students through the engineering design process for young engineers, a system in which students devise a solution for an everyday problem, make a plan, design a prototype, test the prototype, and then make necessary improvements.

Students are fully engaged and understand the results of their critical thinking. It breaks away from mundane teaching methods that don't show students the bigger picture. It also creates excitement about science and technology fields to encourage students to pursue those subjects at more advanced levels.
