The Image That Doesn't Want to Be Seen

Autor Kenneth Feinstein Editat de Wolfgang Schirmacher
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 apr 2010
When we talk about photography we talk about the image. We tend to look at all photographs as the same. But where the professional photograph is about creating an image; the amateur photograph is about the act of creating the picture. When we ask someone "take a picture of me" we are putting ourselves in the hands of others. We are making them responsible for us and to us. At its heart it is about the performance of the pose. The act of creating the image takes priority over the image produced. The responsibility of the self to others and Otherness is enacted in the creation of the amateur photograph. In this book, the act of taking a photograph is investigated as an act of placing oneself in a relationship with Otherness. It is seen as the ethical embodiment of one of our most fundamental acts, our responsibility to those around us. About the Author:Kenneth Feinstein is a media artist and writer. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. He received his Ph.D. from the European Graduate School, Saas-Fee, Switzerland, and is an Assistant Professor in the School of Art, Design & Media at the Nanyang Technology University in Singapore.
