PAUL THOMPSON is Professor of Organizational Analysis and Head of the Department of Human Resource Management at the University of Strathclyde Business School. In addition to many journal articles, Paul has previously authored Democracy and Patricipation at Work, Palgrave; A Handbook of Work and Organization, OUP; and the highly successful third edition of Work Organizations.CHRIS SMITH is Professor of Organisation Studies at The School of Management, Royal Holloway, University of London, UK.
