This early work by Annie Besant was originally published in 1907 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'Introduction to Yoga' is a collection of Besant's lectures (delivered at the 32nd Anniversary of the Theosophical Society in 1907.) They were intended to give an outline of Yoga, in order to prepare the student to take up, for practical purposes, the Yoga sutras of Patanjali, the chief treatise on Yoga. They may, however, also serve to give to the ordinary lay reader some idea of the Science of sciences, and perhaps to allure a few towards its study. After a travelling widely in Europe in her younger years, Besant moved to London where she fought passionately for her beliefs; freedom of thought, women's rights and secularism. Besant became president of the Theosophical Society in 1890, leading its direction more towards the teachings of Indian mystics and esoteric Christianity.
