Physical Activity and Cancer: Recent Results in Cancer Research, cartea 186

Editat de Kerry S. Courneya, Christine M. Friedenreich
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 2 ian 2013
This book explores in depth the relation between physical activity and cancer control, including primary prevention, coping with treatments, recovery after treatments, long-term survivorship, secondary prevention, and survival. The first part of the book presents the most recent research on the impact of physical activity in preventing a range of cancers. In the second part, the association between physical activity and cancer survivorship is addressed. The effects of physical activity on supportive care endpoints (e.g., quality of life, fatigue, physical functioning) and disease endpoints (e.g., biomarkers, recurrence, survival) are carefully analyzed. In addition, the determinants of physical activity in cancer survivors are discussed, and behavior change strategies for increasing physical activity in cancer survivors are appraised. The final part of the book is devoted to special topics, including the relation of physical activity to pediatric cancer survivorship and to palliative cancer care.

Recenzii

From the reviews:
“Comprehensive review of the epidemiologic literature examining the role of physical activity in preventing the most prevalent cancers … . The book is well written … . It would be appropriate for public health graduate students, exercise physiology graduate students, and nurse and physician practitioners in rehabilitation settings. It will be an important book to help physical activity researchers … . It is a smart tool that allows readers to easily grasp … . I am grateful to have had the opportunity to read it.” (Kathleen F. Janz, Doody’s Review Service, March, 2011)
“An essential resource for any investigator interested in physical activity and cancer. … it is written in a manner that is readable and easily interpretable, making it a resource for any allied health professional or community volunteer working with cancer patients or survivors, as well as for the patients, survivors and caregivers themselves. Overall, this is a very good book. It is an excellent addition to the literature on cancer control and behavioral science. The editors and their colleagues should be commended.” (Karen M. Mustian, Psycho-Oncology, Vol. 20, 2011)

The final part of the book is devoted to further special topics, including the relation of physical activity to pediatric cancer survivorship and to palliative cancer care.
