Face is very important in Korea but in need of explanation to Germans. Considering the different cultural backgrounds in general, and the awareness of face in Korea and Germany in particular, one can say business negotiations are supposed to be influenced by face, and, thus, the overall outcome of such negotiations. The research objective of this dissertation, therefore, is the analysis of differences in face relevant behavior that can be considered to be "social face profiles". Social face profiles will be analyzed by comparing differences in German and Korean face negotiation habits (first research objective), differences in German and Korean perception of face relevant traits (second research objective), and different behavior dependent on the national background of the negotiation partner (third research objective). The structure of the dissertation is divided into the following five chapters:- Chapter 1: Theories of Intercultural Communication- Chapter 2: Face and Facework in Negotiation- Chapter 3: Negotiation in Intercultural Context- Chapter 4: How are German-South Korean Negotiations influenced by the Concept of Face - Trait Analysis- Chapter 5: Results - Definition of Social Face Profiles and their Determination through Adaptation
